Safety Standards Certificates in Milton

A Safety Standards Certificate is the document Ontario requires when a used vehicle changes hands or comes into the province. Without one you cannot complete the registration.

We carry out safety inspections at our shop on Bronte Street South in Milton.

When you need one

  • Buying or selling a used vehicle, unless the transfer is between spouses
  • Registering a vehicle brought in from another province or country
  • Putting a vehicle back on the road after it has been unplated
  • Renewing your annual inspection as an Uber or Lyft driver

It is valid for 36 days

A Safety Standards Certificate expires 36 calendar days after the inspection. If you register the vehicle after that, the certificate is no longer accepted and the inspection has to be paid for again. Time the inspection close to when you plan to register, but leave room for any repairs the vehicle needs first.

What the inspection covers

The inspection is set by the Ministry of Transportation and is the same at every licensed station. It looks at the parts of the vehicle that affect whether it is safe to drive.

  • Brakes, including lines, pads and rotors
  • Tires and wheels
  • Steering and suspension components
  • Lights, signals and reflectors
  • Windshield, glass and wipers
  • Exhaust and fuel systems
  • Fluid leaks
  • Body and frame condition

If something fails

A vehicle that does not meet the standard cannot be issued a certificate until the fault is repaired. We are a repair shop, so anything found during the inspection can be fixed here rather than sending you somewhere else and starting again.
